This time around we headed to
Double Door to watch Mobb Deep on stage. We not only missed the supporting acts
but an opportunity for a front row view. The venue is relatively small though, kind of like Bassline
in Jozi with a different layout. All the same Prodigy and Havoc worked that stage so I
got to see plenty.
Unlike my brother, I wasn’t
an instant Mobb Deep fan until hearing ‘Quite Storm’ made me reconsider my
position and I took another listen their music. ‘Win or Lose’, a track from a
later album, completely won me over. Now, I don’t have all their albums it was
sweet to know most of their show’s repertoire.
After the show, the only meet
and great that took place was paid for and not in the stars for me that night.
I tried to hustle my way in to the VIP room mzansi style but gave up a few
minutes in. Earlier on we had been told the group often felt the meet and great
sessions tended to be male dominated and ladies were welcomed. The bouncer at
the door clearly didn’t get that memo. I consoled myself that the show was
amazing and I got some decent amateur shots. My friend couldn’t have cared less
about getting into VIP as she was clear what access her ticket allowed, but she
was sport and didn’t leave me to fly solo.
