The Hottest Frequency

I'm impressed at how YFM stayed true to it’s essence of being a youth brand. Though I’m not youth anymore it is one of the stations in my repertoire for those times that I listen radio. It is also the station where Claire‘s love for radio began when she co-hosted ‘Live & Dangerous’ with Majota ‘Phat Joe’ Khambule. Remember?

Fast forward to a decade later; gone are the dingy studios in Doornfontein, The Zone in Rosebank became synonymous with YFM studios and now the station is situated in Hyde Park where access control to the building is by finger print ID.  We arrived a bit early for the interview scheduled for 10pm. After freezing our assets off for some time we managed to get security’s attention and were ushered to the building. The host Nhlamulo ‘Mulo’ Hlugwani walked in some time later, Claire did her drop and the interview was underway.

Claire & Mulo

I realized after the interview that Mulo only took 1.5 questions from callers. He had said he would let a fair number of listeners ask Claire questions throughout the two hour interview. I guess he had too many of his own questions that he wanted answered.
