Hype At MonteCasino

Ginger Bread & Riot

I’m on the outside, no longer in the know. Which is alright as it gives me a reason to explore. I had no idea who Sean Pages was until Live on S1 debuted his video for the hot song ‘Get it right’ ft Teepee this past Friday.  As far as I was concerned homeboy was a (tight) newcomer. Not hey; his first major project was a mixtape in 2003 already and even then he collaborated with some big names.

As part of a fact finding mission on Hype Magazine my crew and I found ourselves at the Sean Pages birthday party (8 April) at Vacca Matta MonteCasino.  Morale (who featured Zola in the touching track titled 'Ayamaa' on the DJ Lemonka mixtape), Ginger Bread, Riot, Dope Green were in attendance (and no I did not recognize any of them). Teepee was in the house (he looked familiar) and Bongz (everybody knows Bongz) was also there to show love for Sean. Too bad for us we had to leave before the guest of honour arrived so we missed all the live performances.

Before leaving I had a quick chat with Ginger Bread who is really excited about his upcoming mix tape and is also featured in the Sean Pages Grinder Harder mixtape that is coming out with the Apr/May issue of Hype. Bongz let me know that he’s in a good space and working on fresh sounds at his studio. To me, Bongani Fassie consistently delivers it fresh.

Much respect to Simone Harris for giving platform to those involved with the Hip Hop movement.
