Sandman is the Executive Creative Director at Momentum McCann SA, is also a blogger and I count him as ‘goosebump trigger’ when he is doing his thing and doing it well.
He tells me from the time he could read he fell in love with the English language because of the headlines on print ads for brands like Volvo, BMW and Mercedes. Not know where one studied advertising (never mind copywriting) Sandman enrolled for marketing diploma at Mangosuthu Technikon in KZN. During his 3rd year he saw an article in Femina on an advertising school in Cape Town run by Brian Searle-Tripp and a number to the school offering bursaries.
He phoned the school but procrastinated to submit the write-up that would determine his admission. Brian made a follow up call, Sandman made the submission and a week later he took a bus down to Cape Town. Due to financial difficulties he would have ceased studying after one year had it not been for Robyn Putter and Robert Rightford sponsoring his 2nd year. Sandman’s working career began in 1997 at the then Ogilvy& Mather Rightford Searle-Tripp & Makin as a Junior Copywriter. I met him the following year when I joined as a Brand Administrator.
