Downtown Just After Midnight into Saturday
|
I decided to take a drive to down town to find a spot I’d never been to before. Despite my intentions of a new discovery I ended on Fox Street but was disappointed as two of the places I went to were closing as it was nearing midnight. Dang! You’d think I’d go home. I mean it’s down town Jozi and I’m rolling solo...
Earlier on, before getting to Fox I had driven passed some old building and could hear nice tunes coming from one of them. There’d been a lone security guard, the street had looked too abandoned and I could not see an entrance hinting to where the music was coming from so I drove past. My luck somehow I ended up back in the same road, the music was still calling but now there were a few people in the streets. I parked my car and asked security to point me in the direction of the music. Typical of downtown buildings at the moment, the one I walked into looks unused with the top floor and roof top converted into a function area. No one asked questions or demanded I pay a cover charge so I followed the crowd and got into the lift.
Upstairs I found the Puma Social Club event was a ‘bowling lane' set up, a number of ping-pong, foosball and snooker tables. There was also a DJ booth, some chalk blackboards, several bars and a food station on the roof top. Of the people who were there others were breaking a sweat at the various tables whilst others just chilling on sidelines or on the dance floor. I’m not sure how correct my information is but the event is on until Saturday, 12 March. I checked the street when I left and the building is 84 Commissioner Street, Corner Simmonds Street in Marshalltown.
I hung out for a bit but it didn’t really get into it. Besides, other than the female security guards I might have (by far) been the oldest female there. It happens.
